Reach for the STAR

Day 10: Step Up and Into the Political Arena

On 07/29/2015, the bipartisan, bicameral Survivorship, Treatment, Access, and Research (STAR) Act was introduced to benefit children with cancer, children living with cancer, and children who have survived cancer. I would even argue that this benefits families whose children have died from childhood cancer as it supports innovative, less toxic, effective treatments, funding of pediatric clinical research, and access to treatment issues; these families can be a part of ensuring that other parents, families don’t face the same catastrophic outcome. Because at the end of the day, families who have faced this disease only want the best for every child and family who comes behind them.
